The Three Truths and a Sudden Storm | Diary Entry - 7th June 2025
The morning wore a soft grey veil. Clouds hung low, as if listening in silence, just above the horizon. A perfect backdrop to set the tone - not heavy, but reflective.
We began the day the way I like best: with a morning prayer, followed by a safety talk and HOD meeting. There’s something immensely grounding in these gatherings. People standing together, minds aligning, energy syncing. After the prayer, I felt compelled to speak - not as a manager, but as someone who’s learned through burns, bruises, and battles.
I spoke about three fundamental pillars - principles I believe are not just rules for work, but for life:
-
The 5 Cardinal Rules of Safety: Treat them as a daily checklist - for yourself, your team, and the plant. Simple. Life-saving.
-
C.I.L.T. (Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication, Tightening): I reminded everyone that once the machines start running, our human instinct is to relax. But that’s exactly when we must be more alert. Keep C.I.L.T. alive.
-
The Pledge: “I will take care of the safety of three: Myself, my colleagues, and the machines.” - I asked everyone to not just recite, but live it. These three simple truths, if followed sincerely, guarantee not just fewer breakdowns, but also a more meaningful work life.
Just as we wrapped up, rain began to patter gently on the rooftops - like nature’s applause. It didn’t pour, but it stayed around long enough to keep the day cool and thoughtful.
Later in the morning, we had the DPM (Daily Production Meeting) where we conducted a joint review of all pending DPR (Daily Production Report) points. We took just 15 minutes but managed to untangle most of the confusions. The list has become surprisingly small now. I said clearly, "If RCAs (Root Cause Analyses) don’t come on the table, the same problems will keep knocking on the door.”
I also had a brief, calm conversation with our Finance Controller - regarding my final working day. It’s now decided: 15th June or earlier. A date on the calendar that didn’t exist for me a few weeks ago has now become real. There’s no drama in it. Just closure taking shape.
Lunch was peacefully quiet, and the weather helped. A cool breeze, the sound of distant rain, and a stomach satisfied without rush. But the calm didn’t last long.
By mid-afternoon, I heard some disturbing news - Mr. Tabate, one of the members of delegation and mechanical team, was involved in a physical altercation in town during lunch break. Apparently, something serious escalated quickly, resulting in deep injuries on his face and left hand. Both wounds required stitches. I rushed to visit him at the dispensary. Thankfully, the doctor assured he was out of danger, though shaken and in visible pain. Such incidents are rare here - and they jolt you back into the rawness of life outside the plant walls.
While I was there, I also mentioned my own nagging dental pain. It’s been bothering me for days, but today it felt different - itching in the full jaw and the first big upper-left tooth felt loose. That persistent urge to pull it out is growing. The doctor gave me painkillers and anti-infection meds, enough to keep it at bay for now. Let’s see how long that lasts.
Both Line #1 and Line #2 are running. That’s what matters.
