Discipline, Documentation, and Dedication: Diary Entry - 20th March 2025

The Power of Unity: From Prayer to Performance

This morning, something beautiful happened in our meeting. A colleague started reciting a prayer, and gradually, others joined in. Moments like these remind me why I appreciate collective prayer so much. When we pray together, we generate a collective energy that amplifies its impact manifold.

I explained this with a simple physics analogy—when soldiers march in step on a wooden bridge, their synchronized movement creates resonance, which can break the bridge. This is the power of unity. Now, imagine using this same principle not for destruction, but for creation. If we align our efforts, work in sync, and channel our collective strength towards a common goal, our power will multiply. And this begins with something as simple as a shared prayer. A strong beginning leads to a strong outcome.

Neglect Today, Crisis Tomorrow: HFO Pipeline Maintenance

During my plant visit today, I noticed something concerning. The trench carrying the HFO pipeline was completely filled with water and mud. The pipes were buried under filth, invisible beneath the neglect. This is a classic example of what happens when maintenance is ignored—once a system is left unattended, it deteriorates beyond repair.

It’s a universal truth in plant operations: the cost of neglect is always higher than the cost of maintenance. This applies not just to pipelines but to everything—machines, processes, even people. A neglected issue today will grow into a crisis tomorrow.

ISO Audits: A Lesson from the Past

Today, the external ISO audit started, bringing back memories of 2005-06 when I was running Skyline Surgipharma in Surat. Back then, I witnessed something amusing yet alarming—on the night before the audit, people scrambled to prepare documents, staying up all night just to meet compliance requirements.

This approach made no sense to me. Why create documents just for an audit? Why not align the real processes with ISO standards? I took a different route—I converted all our real working documents and practices into ISO-compliant formats and eliminated redundant paperwork created just for the audit. The result? Audits became effortless.

A well-prepared system should function smoothly every day, not just when an auditor is around. This is a mindset shift we need in every industry, including ours.

Attendance Marking for Expats – Is It Not Required?

One strange thing I noticed—there is no attendance marking system for expat employees. But why? If attendance tracking is important for local employees, why should it be ignored for expats?

Every organization needs to track work hours, presence, and accountability. An attendance system ensures discipline, improves workforce management, and provides accurate data for performance assessment. A fair system applies to everyone, without exception.

Gate Pass / Out Pass – Why It Should Be Mandatory

The gate pass system—referred to here as Out Pass—should be mandatory for everyone. Why? Because:
✅ It ensures security—everyone entering or exiting is accounted for.
✅ It prevents unauthorized movements, reducing risks of theft or loss.
✅ It helps in emergency situations—knowing who is inside and who is outside at any given time is crucial.

Every well-managed plant follows strict entry-exit protocols. If we want efficiency and accountability, we need to enforce this rule strictly.

Documenting Safety & Morning Talks

One thing I’ve learned over the years—if it’s not recorded, it never happened. Verbal communication is great, but without records, there’s no way to track or prove its impact.

We need a proper system to log safety talks and morning meetings. A simple Google Form can do wonders.
✔️ Attendance can be marked digitally.
✔️ Topics discussed can be recorded.
✔️ A photo of the session can be attached.

With this system, there will be no ambiguity—anyone can verify what was discussed, who attended, and how consistently these sessions are being conducted. Let’s make it happen.

Final Thought

From a morning prayer to plant maintenance, from ISO audits to attendance tracking—everything boils down to discipline, documentation, and dedication. When we work in sync, our power multiplies. When we neglect, failures accumulate. Today is another reminder that small changes lead to big transformations. Let’s start making those changes, one step at a time.
