Diary Entry for 28th April : Steps Forward, Even on Heavy Days
Today started on a very heavy note — literally.
The night was restless, thanks to some bad food causing a lot of gas and uneasiness. Sleep simply refused to visit. Despite this, I decided to start the day early with my usual walk from the highway to the plant. I always find simple joy in greeting the sweepers diligently cleaning the road and acknowledging strangers. A small gesture, yet it makes the morning feel lighter.
A quick detour to the dispensary followed, to check on a colleague admitted from our Fortia unit. Thankfully, he was recovering well after a scare of heart pain. Moments like these make you realize how fragile life is.
During the morning prayer, Mr. Edoh thanked God for keeping us alive and safe. I added my thoughts — that our own actions also help God to protect us. Safety isn't just divine grace; it's our responsibility too.
Since my health was not in top form, I shortened the usual plant round after visiting the Stores. A little rest and a light breakfast of fruits helped me regain some strength, and by around 9:55 AM, I felt reasonably better.
Plant updates:
-
Line#1 Shutdown: Bricks are being removed and cleaning is ongoing. About 17 meters of brick lining will be needed from the 12-meter to 29-meter mark.
-
Line#2 Operations: Running smoothly, stack emissions under control, and quality is good. Fine-tuning and optimization will continue.
-
Fortia Unit: We faced a serious problem — due to a UPS failure, the PLC backup was lost, and grinding operations had to be halted. Fortunately, 7,500 tons of material are safely stored in the silo, and packing is proceeding. Meanwhile, the technical team is working hard on restoring the programming.
In more positive news, the Motor Rewinding Team has arrived at WACEM yesterday. They will be critical in overhauling major HT motors, which is a big relief.
Maintenance of process machines like the brick cutting machine, mixer, lining machines, and fork-lift was discussed. It's a simple truth: If these are not well maintained during the normal running days, they become bottlenecks during shutdowns. Prevention is the only cure.
Reflecting on the day's experience, I realized the urgent need to create my own SOPs and maintain an activity tracker. It will help bring more clarity and systematic rhythm to my tasks.
Another moment I cherished today — I attached a photo from yesterday where I picked up plastic waste and rubbish at our Main Assembly Point. Small actions lead to a cleaner, better environment, even if nobody notices.
Now, as I close the day’s notes, a final question lingers —
Tonight is my night vigilance duty. Should I skip it considering my health?
A little voice inside me says: "Listen to your body today, and return stronger tomorrow."
