A Song, A Mango, and Many Missed Details | Diary Entry - May 7th, 2025

This morning, I opened the meeting on an unusual note - quite literally - by singing:

"Although we hail from different lands, we share one earth and sky and sun. Remember friends, the world is one."

The words felt apt, though I knew they'd sound offbeat amidst the war-fueled adrenaline around the globe. But I sang them anyway --- some things need to be said whether or not they are heard.
After the HOD meeting, I found myself at the Main Assembly Point again, humming the same tune. I recorded a quick selfie video and shared it on my WhatsApp status. A small act of peace in a noisy world.

On my way back, something else caught my eye --- a tiny, fully ripe mango lying on the ground. I picked it up. The first bite was a surprise - sweet beyond words. It reminded me that in the middle of dust, heat, and dead routines, nature still whispers quietly, offering joy to those who listen.

Later, I took another plant round: Kiln -> Raw Mill -> Preheater Fan.
As usual, I clicked a few pictures while walking --- equipment, layout, random observations. Back in the DPM, I revisited a core message I keep trying to drive home:

  • If a problem occurs, it's a failure of our basic CLTI practices.

  • If it repeats, we’ve failed in root cause analysis.

  • If it happens elsewhere, we’ve failed in implementing learnings from previous RCAs.

Unfortunately, these reminders don’t seem to land the way they should. The same issues persist.

During my lunch break at home, I opened the photos again. I noticed clear abnormalities --- things that would have been missed in live rounds but stood out in still frames. I listed them and shared one by one on our plant group:

  • Raw Mill Drive Station - 9 issues

  • Main Screw Conveyor Drive Station - 5 issues

  • GCT Discharge Screw Conveyor - 5 issues

Just from casual photos during a walk!
I can only imagine how many issues we’d uncover with proper, structured inspection.

But even this kind of simple data gathering doesn’t excite the team.

It’s becoming disheartening. I’ve been trying everything --- direct involvement, delegation, appreciation, discipline, systems, emotions… but I increasingly feel surrounded by people mentally switched off. Maybe not brain-dead literally, but certainly disengaged, apathetic, drifting.

Still, I carry on. For now.

Key Points of the Day:

  • Sang “The World is One” in morning meeting and posted it later.

  • Found and relished a sweet, ripe mango - nature’s gift.

  • Plant visit: Kiln -> Raw Mill -> Preheater Fan. Took pics.

  • Identified 19 abnormalities from casual photo analysis.

  • Reinforced message in DPM on CLTI and RCA failures.

  • Ongoing frustration due to persistent lack of proactive thinking in the team.
