Voices of Hope and the Road Ahead | Diary – 27th May 2025

The day began on a soulful note - literally.

This morning, I sang my favorite prayer, “Aye Malik Tere Bande Hum.” It’s more than just a prayer for me; it’s a conversation with the higher self, a reminder of purpose, humility, and perseverance. For the first time, I decided to record it on my mobile. The verses echoed through the stillness of dawn, filling the space with quiet strength:

“Yeh andhera ghana chha raha, tera insaan ghabra raha…

…Neki par chalein, aur badi se talein, taaki hanste huye nikale dam.”

After the prayer, I translated its essence into English for the team and spoke a few lines about how, despite challenges, one must continue walking the path of goodness and courage. Mensah translated it into French for the larger audience. The hall responded with claps - not just out of formality, but as a shared moment of understanding. It brought everyone together.

HOD Meeting: Wishing Strength to All

In the morning meeting with HODs, I could see the toll the recent chaos had taken. I wished everyone strength and good luck. We need it. The plant’s reality is slowly surfacing - much worse than it looked at first glance. We’re now finding skeletons in every corner: missing bolts, bypassed safety systems, jammed lubrication points, rusted piping, broken drain covers - the symptoms of years of neglected maintenance and misplaced priorities.

Line2 is finally running, though not at full confidence yet.

Line1 is in critical care - another three days, at least, if all goes well.

The Skeletons of the Past

While trying to fix today, we are uncovering yesterday. A prolonged phase of poor maintenance culture - no inspections, no ownership, no standards - has left deep scars. Every corner we touch reveals another layer of rot. It's overwhelming, but not discouraging. We are simply getting closer to the truth.

There is no shortcut here. This will take time. But it will change.

Digital Seeds for a Smarter Plant

One bright spot today was a discussion with our QC Manager. I demonstrated how we could use Google Forms to digitize logbooks - simple, real-time, easily sharable. I also showed him my DPR (Daily Performance Report) setup. His eyes lit up. This was the spark I hoped for.

Starting tomorrow, we will begin digitizing QC logs. From a dusty register to a smart cloud log - it may seem like a small step, but it’s a step toward a digital plant culture. Over time, every department can follow this path.

Other Highlights

  • The DPM (Daily Plant Meeting) was cancelled today, possibly because the focus shifted to hands-on firefighting.
  • During lunch, we heard loud thundering coming from Tabligbo. When we returned, it was clear the town had received a heavy downpour. Nature’s own intervention, cleansing and refreshing.
  • I had a formal interaction with a senior person from our Burkina Faso grinding unit. Nothing groundbreaking, but good to connect and begin the conversation.
  • Continued working on the Plant Improvement Plan (PIP). Each line I add makes it more comprehensive, more real. This is not just a list - it’s a future blueprint.

Key Points of the Day – 27th May:

1. Started the day with a sung prayer and recorded it for the first time.

2. Translated the prayer's message to English, followed by a French translation by Mensah.

3. Line2 is operational, Line1 expected to take another three days.

4. Continued discovery of poor maintenance legacies, highlighting long-standing neglect.

5. HOD meeting held, DPM cancelled.

6. Lunch-time thunderstorm in Tabligbo, refreshing change in weather.

7. Discussed digital logbooks with QC Manager, shown working example via Google Form.

8. Initiated plans to start digitalization of QC records from tomorrow.

9. Formal interaction with senior from Burkina Faso grinding unit.

10. Ongoing work on Plant Improvement Plan (PIP) with new layers being added.

Reflection:

Today was a mix of soul, struggle, and strategy. I felt a quiet satisfaction in blending spiritual grounding with technical planning. We may be far from our destination, but every sincere action, no matter how small, is bringing us closer.
