Morning Talk – Reinforcing Safety

Safety is not just a priority; it is a core value that cannot be compromised. In today’s morning talk, I once again emphasized the 5 Cardinal Rules of Safety, ensuring that every employee understands and follows them:

  1. Do not override any safety system or interlock.
  2. Do any work only after taking line clearance from the responsible authority.
  3. Wear appropriate PPEs as per job requirements.
  4. Do not report to duty under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance.
  5. Report any violation of the above rules, any unsafe act, or any unsafe condition immediately.

Repetition is key to internalizing these rules. Safety should become a habit, not just a requirement.

Daily Production Meeting (DPM) – Accountability through Daily Job Reports

In the Daily Production Meeting, I reinforced the need for better accountability and transparency in daily maintenance and production activities. I insisted that all HODs must send a Daily Job Done Report in the WhatsApp group.

To avoid confusion, I gave them a demo and an example of how the message should be formatted:

📌 Daily Job Done Report – [Date]
🔹 Department: (Mechanical/Electrical/Production/Instrumentation)
🔹 Major Jobs Completed:

  • [Job 1]
  • [Job 2]
  • [Job 3]
    🔹 Pending Issues/Concerns:
  • [Issue 1]
  • [Issue 2]
    🔹 Remarks/Next Steps:

This structured format will ensure clarity and quick review of daily tasks.

School Visit Request – Managing 130 Students in a Cement Plant

A local school requested a plant visit for 130 students. While I always encourage educational visits, this number is quite large. The first question is: Do they want to visit the plant while it is running?

Currently, both production lines are stopped, so it is an ideal time in terms of safety. If they visit while the plant is running, we must limit the number of students per batch for safety and better learning. A 15-20 student batch system seems the best way forward, ensuring they can visit key areas, including the CCR (Central Control Room).

I discussed this with the Admin team, and they will confirm the school's preferences before finalizing the plan.

Pending Matter – Contractor’s Fatal Accident Case

A difficult and unresolved matter is still on the table. A contractor has requested support regarding a worker who met with a fatal accident on the 1st of this month. This is a sensitive issue, and the decision needs careful consideration. Pending discussions must be concluded soon.

ISO Audit Postponed

The ISO Audit, originally scheduled for this month, has been postponed by two weeks. It will now take place in the second week of March. This gives us extra time to address gaps and prepare better.

Weather Report

Today was hot and humid, making outdoor work uncomfortable. These conditions emphasize the need for proper hydration and regular breaks for workers, especially those involved in heavy physical tasks.

Final Thoughts

Another eventful day at the plant. The key takeaways:
✔ Safety must be reinforced daily to become second nature.
Structured reporting brings better accountability.
Educational visits must be planned carefully for safety.
Sensitive issues, like accidents, must be handled with due diligence and compassion.
Delays (ISO audit, maintenance progress) must be used wisely to improve preparedness.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
