A Walk Among People – Simplicity and Connection
The morning was not peaceful at all, as always. [That's why] I got ready early than everyday.
There’s something refreshing about stepping out early in the morning, setting the tone for the day. Today was no different. With my laptop bag on my shoulder, I stepped out, greeting everyone along the way.
As I walked, I met the children from the plant quarters. Their excitement, their smiles—it’s contagious. A selfie here, a handshake there. These small interactions make a difference. A child’s innocent excitement can wipe away even the heaviest thoughts.
Reaching the road, I saw one of our employees cycling to the plant. He stopped, greeted me, and we exchanged a few words. Simple moments, yet powerful ones. A cycle, a conversation, an acknowledgment—it’s about staying connected with the people who keep the plant running.
Then came Ghanshyam Jee’s vehicle. I took a lift to the plant. Another normal day, but is it really just that?
What’s the Impact of Such Small Things?
-
Breaking the invisible walls – A leader walking among his people, greeting them, makes leadership approachable, not distant.
-
Creating trust – A handshake, a conversation, or even a shared laugh builds comfort and confidence.
-
Seeing reality firsthand – Not just supervising from an office but being among the people gives a clearer understanding of their lives and challenges.
-
The power of small gestures – A simple greeting can lift someone’s spirits, make them feel valued and recognized.
Eid Tomorrow – Making It Special
Tomorrow is Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival of joy, celebration, and togetherness. Our Admin Officer came with a notice for my signature, the usual formal office circular. But why should it be so dull?
I asked him, "How can we make it different? How can we make it better?"
He didn’t understand what I meant at first.
So, I explained—it’s a festival, not just another announcement. The words should reflect the mood, the warmth, the celebration. It should feel festive, not just official.
His response? "We will do it from now."
I laughed and said, “Who knows where I’ll be next year? And will you still remember this lesson?”
Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. But if he does, then today was worth it.
Closing a Chapter, Opening Another
From today, I have decided not to write about plant affairs here. The purpose of this diary—tracking my daily activities—has been fulfilled. I will now continue writing other reflections and thoughts here.
This is not an end. It’s just a shift. The observations, the learnings, and the moments will continue—just in a different way.
