Breaking the Cycle, Building the Mindset
The morning started with confusion about today’s holiday. A fake notice had been circulating, creating unnecessary uncertainty. Even during the morning meeting, people were unsure whether today was a working day or not. Small misinformation can create big disruptions.
Once the confusion settled, we took our daily safety pledge – ‘GAGE DE SECURITY’. But a pledge is not just about repeating words—it’s about understanding their meaning. So, I took a moment to explain the deeper significance.
Then came a familiar topic—workers retiring and contract workers replacing them. Again, I had to explain that nothing happens automatically. Performance matters. If anyone wants a permanent position, they must prove their capability, reliability, and commitment.
But what really irritated me was when another worker tried to mix safety concerns with employment issues. Safety is non-negotiable. It’s for everyone, every day, in every situation. It cannot be diluted by other concerns.
Morning Meetings: A Necessity, Not a Formality
Later, in the HOD meeting, I explained why the morning meeting is so important.
✔ People arrive in different states of mind—some are angry, some worried, some distracted.
✔ The prayer brings everyone to the same mental state—calm and focused.
✔ After prayer, we discuss safety—so that before anyone touches a machine, they have safety in mind.
It’s something I have learned through experience. I have seen its impact. Even if people act indifferent, we must continue. It’s our responsibility.
Breaking the Vicious Cycle
The kiln is disturbed, and people say that’s why equipment is failing. But the truth is the opposite—some equipment is already faulty, and that’s why the kiln is getting disturbed.
It’s a vicious cycle. And it has to be broken. Not by assumptions, but by solving problems at their root. What’s the point of running the plant if we’re just producing bad clinker?
DPM and RCA—Again!
In the Daily Production Meeting, I had to again emphasize Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
How many times do we need to discuss the same thing before people truly understand? RCA is not just a checklist activity. It’s about finding and fixing the real problem, not just symptoms.
Some lessons need to be repeated until they become a mindset.
