Leadership, Responsibility & Grounded Reflections: Plant Diary – February 21, 2025
Morning Gratitude – A Positive Start
The day began with a moment of gratitude when a colleague prayed for the well-being of our Chairman Sir, myself, and everyone in the team. In response, I thanked him and wished for the well-being of all. Starting the day on such a note set a positive tone for everything that followed.
Theft Incident – A Serious Concern
Unfortunately, another theft incident occurred today in the plant. This time, thieves managed to cut and steal a large live cable. This is a serious issue, not only in terms of financial loss but also as a safety hazard. Strengthening security measures and vigilance remains a priority.
Refining Systems – Strengthening Planning & Execution
I continued my work on refining the Job Planning Register (JPR), making it even more structured and effective. Additionally, I created a separate Shutdown Plan Tracker (SPT) and shared both with the mechanical team. These tools will enhance maintenance planning, execution, and accountability.
Visit to Diamond Cement Togo (DCT) – Taking on a New Responsibility
After lunch, I traveled to our grinding unit, Diamond Cement Togo (DCT). I made a conscious decision not to interrupt my driver even once, and he drove me there smoothly in just one and a half hours.
At DCT, I:
✔ Inspected ongoing work with the team.
✔ Conducted a detailed session on JPR, SPT, and SOP of JPR in the conference room, presenting practical examples.
✔ Stayed back to sign the ISO documents as a management representative, ensuring compliance with the required standards.
There is currently no General Manager at DCT, so I have taken the charge on myself. Regular visits here will not only ensure better coordination but also allow me to contribute to its operations and leadership.
Evening – Security Discussions & Reflections
Returning to the plant at 6:30 PM, I discussed today's security meeting with Mr. BVK Raju, and we outlined a plan to work further on this issue. Given the recent thefts, tightening security measures is imperative.
A Change of Environment – A Refreshing Experience
Visiting DCT once a week is proving to be beneficial in multiple ways. The change of environment helps me reset my mind, and the additional responsibility gives me a sense of purpose beyond my routine work.
While traveling through rural Togo, I witnessed the simple yet harsh realities of life. This journey reminded me to stay grounded. Seeing the people, their struggles, and their resilience awakens a sense of compassion within me. It is a humbling experience that keeps me connected to reality.
Final Thoughts
📌 A day that started with gratitude ended with reflection.
📌 Theft remains a concern—security measures need reinforcement.
📌 Structured planning tools (JPR & SPT) will improve plant operations.
📌 Taking charge at DCT is a new challenge, but a fulfilling one.
📌 Traveling through rural areas is a reminder of life’s bigger picture.
A leader is not just someone who manages operations but also someone who adapts, learns, and remains compassionate.
