Building Engagement, Safety, and Structured Progress: Reflections – 28th February, 2025

The day began on a soulful note with Mensah singing a beautiful prayer in the morning meeting. I’ve always loved that prayer, and today, I noticed some people humming along but not singing fully. To break the hesitation, I gave a quick demo—singing it aloud with full voice. It was amazing to see everyone follow suit, filling the space with energy and positivity. Following the prayer, we focused on workplace safety. A practical demonstration on lifting heavy loads properly was conducted, ensuring that everyone understood the correct techniques to prevent injuries. I summarized the key takeaways into four simple steps: Bend from the knees, not from the waist. Stay as close as possible to the load. Lift with the legs, not the waist. If the load is too heavy, ask for help. Later, I even shared these points in my childhood friends' WhatsApp group because safe lifting techniques apply at home as well. To lighten the moment, I added a fifth step in the context of the recent stock ...

Morning Meeting: A Positive Start to the Day 🎶 A Beautiful Prayer Song One of our young workmen started the meeting with a prayer song, setting a calm and uplifting tone for the day. It was a reminder that work isn’t just about machines and deadlines—it’s about people, emotions, and collective energy. A good beginning can shape the entire day's productivity. ✅ Improved Attendance, But a Pattern Noticed The strength in today’s meeting was good, but many joined only during the prayer. This shows that people are willing to participate but haven’t yet built the discipline of punctuality. I reminded them that the morning meeting is not just a formality—it’s where we set our intentions and energy for the day. I requested everyone to be present before the siren blows. 🔔 Why Morning Meetings Matter A well-structured morning meeting creates a shared vision. It ensures that everyone understands the priorities, safety aspects, and expectations for the day. Over time, these meetings can b...

Morning Moments – A Mini Farewell & a Fun Ride ☀️ Before heading to the plant , we met Mr. Devarajan , who was leaving for Mali. 🔧 He had come to help us with Grate Cooler overhauling . 👋 We bid him a mini-farewell —a small but heartfelt gesture. 🚌 Took the staff bus with my team-members —I enjoy doing such funny things. ✔️ Small actions break barriers and create a sense of camaraderie. Morning Meeting – The Meaning of True Independence 🌍 India & Togo have something in common —both were once not independent. 🧐 But are we truly independent now? 🚨 No, we are still slaves —not to foreign rulers, but to our own weaknesses and bad habits . 🍺 Alcohol is one of them. 💡 True independence will come when we are free from such things. ✔️ The message was deep, but necessary. ✔️ Freedom is not just external—it’s an internal battle too. HOD Standing Meeting – Leadership Rotation 👨‍🏭 Today, Mechanical HOD, Mr. Chandrashekhar Singh, led the meeting. ✔️ Encouraging different leaders ...

Morning Meeting – The Reality of Work I started the session with a simple truth: 🔹 Nobody wants to leave home and come to the plant. LET'S BE HONEST. 🔹 Our responsibilities push us to do so. 🔹 Since we are here, we must work—with full energy. There's no other way. ✔ This direct message was necessary to reset the mindset of the team. Alcohol Issues – Again a Concern ⚠️ Alcohol-related problems were raised again. ⚠️ This is becoming a repetitive issue , indicating that previous warnings haven’t worked . ⚠️ A stronger approach may be needed. Encouraging Leadership – HOD Standing Meeting 📌 Encouraged Mr. Lingaiah to lead today's meeting —and he did it well. 📌 Good leadership must be nurtured —this was a step in the right direction. 📌 Actionable Decision: ✅ All morning meetings and HOD standing meetings should have recorded minutes for future reference. Cooler Inspection – Confronting Disruptive Behavior ⚠️ Mr. Tabate (a delegate equivalent to a union leader ) misb...

Morning Meeting – The Power of Time Limits This morning, I emphasized the importance of fixing a time limit for jobs . 🕒 If a task has no deadline, it will stretch indefinitely . 🕒 If you give three days to clean a room, it may never get done. 🕒 If you give three hours , it will surely be completed. Outcome: ✔ Contractors joined the meeting today —a positive step. Others will follow soon. HFO Spillage – Immediate Action Taken ⚠️ The issue of HFO-mixed water spilling was raised again. ⚠️ Despite repeated instructions, sludge is still being spilled while being pumped out. ⚠️ Immediate corrective action: Instructed Electrical department to disconnect the pump until a proper arrangement is made. Structured Attendance Monitoring To avoid time-consuming physical attendance tracking: 📌 I will personally monitor HOD presence . 📌 Mr. BVKR will handle contractors' attendance . 📌 HODs will manage their section in-charges . 📌 Section in-charges will ensure their team members...

Reflection, Persistence & Urgent Actions: Plant Diary – February 22, 2025

Morning Talk – The Importance of Time & Progress As two months of 2025 are nearing completion, I started the day with an important reflection — what have we achieved in these two months? Each day is crucial, and if we are not progressing, we are falling behind. After reinforcing this message, I once again requested everyone to: ✔ Share their observations ✔ Report any unsafe acts ✔ Highlight any unsafe conditions Despite my repeated requests, only the usual person spoke up, while the rest remained silent. Some may wonder why I keep insisting, even when responses are minimal. But there is a deeper logic —the habit of observation and reporting does not develop overnight . It requires consistent reinforcement until awareness becomes second nature. Structural Survey – Critical RCC Column Damage After the morning session, Mr. BVK Raju, our draftsman, and I conducted a detailed survey of the plant’s structural condition. 🔍 Key Observations: 📌 Several RCC columns are deteriorati...

Morning Gratitude – A Positive Start The day began with a moment of gratitude when a colleague prayed for the well-being of our Chairman Sir, myself, and everyone in the team . In response, I thanked him and wished for the well-being of all . Starting the day on such a note set a positive tone for everything that followed. Theft Incident – A Serious Concern Unfortunately, another theft incident occurred today in the plant. This time, thieves managed to cut and steal a large live cable . This is a serious issue, not only in terms of financial loss but also as a safety hazard . Strengthening security measures and vigilance remains a priority. Refining Systems – Strengthening Planning & Execution I continued my work on refining the Job Planning Register (JPR) , making it even more structured and effective. Additionally, I created a separate Shutdown Plan Tracker (SPT) and shared both with the mechanical team . These tools will enhance maintenance planning, execution, and accountab...

The Power of Practice & The Truth About 5S | Plant Diary – February 20, 2025

Morning Talk – The Strength of Repetition "I do not fear a man who has practiced a thousand kicks once. I fear the man who has practiced one kick a thousand times." This legendary quote from a legend, Bruce Lee, set the tone for today’s morning talk . I firmly believe in the power of practice and mastery . Over time, I have realized that the rush to consume more —whether it's books, skills, or information—often leads to shallow understanding . I, too, once fell into the trap of reading 50 books a year . I enthusiastically purchased many books, only to find that most were variations of the same fundamental ideas , repackaged with technical add-ons. Now, my perspective has changed. Instead of reading 50 books , I now believe that one should read a great book 50 times —to absorb, reflect, and truly master its wisdom. SOP Development – Job Planning Register Today, I made significant progress in developing the SOP for the Job Planning Register . After thinking about it ...

Sawan Jasoliya's Plant Diary – February 19, 2025

Plant Diary – February 19, 2025 Morning Talk – Reinforcing Safety Safety is not just a priority; it is a core value that cannot be compromised. In today’s morning talk , I once again emphasized the 5 Cardinal Rules of Safety , ensuring that every employee understands and follows them: Do not override any safety system or interlock. Do any work only after taking line clearance from the responsible authority. Wear appropriate PPEs as per job requirements. Do not report to duty under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance. Report any violation of the above rules, any unsafe act, or any unsafe condition immediately. Repetition is key to internalizing these rules. Safety should become a habit, not just a requirement. Daily Production Meeting (DPM) – Accountability through Daily Job Reports In the Daily Production Meeting , I reinforced the need for better accountability and transparency in daily maintenance and production activities. I insisted that all H...
